Make a personalized playlist
Let’s be honest, being in a long-distance relationship means you have to get a little creative when it comes to date nights. For us, music has always been something special. From the very beginning, we were sending songs back and forth, discovering new artists together, and talking about the tracks that shaped us. So, it only made sense to turn that into a fun way to connect. In this blog, I’ll share one of our favorite long-distance date ideas that’s perfect for music lovers — and a great excuse to make a playlist that actually means something.

Getting into a long distance relationship because of an interview about music, means it plays quite a roll. From sending each other our favorite bands to going to gigs when we can, it’s always been something we’ve shared — even before we were actually a thing.
One of the early date night ideas I came up with was making a playlist. But not just any playlist where you both dump your favorite songs into a random Spotify folder. Nope — this one was a little different. The idea? Use music to get to know each other better.
Step One: Make a List
Start by writing down different prompts or moments in life where music plays a role. Think "first dance" (if you're feeling bold) or "best song from a film" (if you're not ready to go full rom-com just yet).
Here’s the list I used as inspiration. Feel free to steal it, add your own, or swap some out — totally up to you!
- Your go-to workout song
- A song that instantly starts the party
- The song that always gets you on the dance floor
- A song you cry to when you're feeling emotional
- That one song that gives you goosebumps every time
- A song that reminds you of a friend (and why)
- Your all-time favorite song — and what makes it your song
- A song that describes your personality
- A song you love because your parents played it on repeat
- Your “no judgement” guilty pleasure song
- The best road trip song
- A song everyone loves… that you hate
- Favorite song from a film soundtrack (tell us which film too!)
- Favorite love song
- Your heartbreak anthem
- Favorite Eurovision entry (we all have one)
- The song you’d propose to
- Your first dance song
- The song you’ll always sing your heart out to
Step Two: Pick Your Songs
Once you’ve got your list, take some time — no rush — and find songs that fit. Some will pop into your head right away, others might take a bit more digging. You might even discover some music you forgot you loved.
The fun part? You do this separately, so you can surprise each other later.
Step Three: Plan the Playlist Date
Set a time for a proper FaceTime date. Get your snacks, grab a drink, and queue up the songs. You can stream them together or just play them out loud while on the call. Take turns explaining your picks — why that song, what it means to you, what memory it holds. Some will be sweet, some will be hilarious, and some might catch you off guard in the best way.
Step Four: Save Your Playlist
After the date, throw all the songs into a shared playlist. Now you’ve got your very own soundtrack, filled with songs that actually mean something. You can listen to it anytime — on a long train ride, while cooking, or when you’re just missing each other a little extra.
